Lighting for People - Graham Festenstein Lighting Design is committed to furthering best practice in public realm lighting design; promoting sustainable environments, integrated design and a reduction in energy use. We believe good lighting in our public spaces can contribute not only to an attractive nightscape and the economic benefits this brings to our urban centres; but that lighting as part of an integrated approach to  urban design can benefit and enhance our communities greatly.  High quality lighting can play a significant role in the improved perception of public safety on our streets at night, allowing the wider community to use our pubic spaces to a greater extent, bringing an enhanced feeling of wellbeing and helping to create more sustainable and inclusive communities.  These principles are reflected in our approach to much of our work.

Liverpool Pier Head Public Realm

Working with Liverpool City Council, British Waterways, landscape architects EDAW and engineers 20/20 Liverpool, Graham Festenstein Lighting Design produced an integrated concept scheme for the wider site, incorporating the Pier Head, New Museum of Liverpool, Mann Island and New Liner Terminal schemes. Working closely with the designers on these associated projects we were able to produce an integrated approach to the lighting across the public realm that was appropriate for this World Heritage Site; providing a sensitive setting for the three graces and in accordance with our lighting strategy for Liverpool City Centre. Graham Festenstein Lighting Design went on to produce a detailed design for the Pier Head public realm scheme for Liverpool City Council.
